Big Time Small Town: Landon McKinney - QB

About 20 miles southwest of Longview, just off of interstate 20, is a small town called Sabine.  A small town but something big is brewing there, and his name is Landon McKinney. Remember this name! McKinney, (6'1" 188 lbs) may be one of the best dual threat QB's in all of East Texas, but most do not know his name. After this season, they will. Quietly, McKinney has put up over 2500 combined yards and 26 TD's as a Junior (Passing: 1533 yards 5 TD's , Rushing: 977 yards 21 TD's) and looks to improve on those stats as a senior.

Rex Sharp, McKinney's Head Football coach, has nothing but praise for this young man,

"Landon is a highly competitive kid. When the lights come on....he takes it to another level.  He is savvy and loves to compete.  He puts in work outside of the normal hours...which makes him special! He is an honor roll student and very popular with our teachers and his peers, as well as us coaches. He is the complete team player.  His teammates love him and he puts them ahead of his own personal stats and honors.  He takes care of his linemen and appreciates what they do, even buying them meals outside of school on many occasions. Strongest attribute is his skill set to play this game.  He can make every throw on the field in our spread passing game.  His running ability makes him a dual threat QB.  I promise you...he is one of the best QB's in our East Texas region, regardless of size of school.  The kid can flat out play! He is a really good kiddo."

As a team this year, Sabine looks to be very competitive, and if McKinney can improve on last year, everyone better look out! So, if you have a free Friday night, head on over to Sabine, buy some popcorn, and sit back and enjoy. After all, that is what East Texas football is all about, SMALL TOWN BIG TIME FOOTBALL!
